When we think of Michael Landon, most of us picture the beloved Charles Ingalls from Little House on the Prairie or Jonathan Smith from Highway to Heaven. But for his daughter Jennifer Landon, the late actor’s most cherished role was being a dad to his nine children. “He was always so present as a father,” Jennifer, now 35, told Closer Weekly in a recent exclusive interview. “He’d sit by the pool and watch me jump around for an hour straight. I think he genuinely enjoyed it. I felt admired by him — which is an amazing feeling to have as a child,” she recalled with a smile.
Michael Landon’s career spanned over three decades, earning him a place in Hollywood history. However, Jennifer revealed that despite his success, her father always prioritized his family. “He was just the best! That doesn’t mean we had free rein. Michael Landon, who had nine children from three marriages, was determined to give them the stable upbringing he didn’t have as a child. “My dad didn’t let the hardships of his past affect his present in a negative way,” Jennifer explained. “None of what he went through was ever evident in how he raised us. He was all about turning things around, which is why he connected so deeply with underdogs.” For Jennifer, this meant pushing herself to be brave. “I always felt that even if I was scared, I would still take the leap because I wanted my father’s respect,” she said.
