In an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, the couple opened up about their family traditions and the exciting changes they’re bringing to their holiday celebrations this year. Setting the Scene: A Cozy Holiday Atmosphere

Stepping onto the set of Home & Family feels like walking into a winter wonderland. The decorators have truly outdone themselves, with every corner of the Universal Studios backlot transformed into a festive paradise. Snow-covered blankets, twinkling fairy lights, giant red bows, and glittery accents create the perfect backdrop for the season. When Closer Weekly sat down with Cameron, 49, and Vanessa, they were nestled on a faux fur throw, holding hands and reminiscing about their favorite Christmas moments. Cameron, who recently represented the Working Group and #TeamDoberman at the AKC National Championship Dog Show, shared some of the playful antics he used to pull off to make Christmas extra magical for his kids.

Recreating Santa's Magic: A Family Tradition

Cameron’s dedication to making Christmas special for his children, Lucas, 15, and Leila, 12, has always been legendary. He recounted one particularly memorable stunt involving a red Rudolph nose light and a lot of rooftop stomping. “I’d climb up on the roof and stomp around like Santa, while my brother hid in the bushes with the glowing Rudolph nose,” Cameron recalled with a laugh. “When the kids looked out the window and saw Rudolph’s nose shining, their faces lit up with pure joy. It was a moment I’ll never forget.” This kind of creativity and effort shows just how much Cameron values the magic of the holidays.

For Vanessa, the essence of Christmas lies in the spirit of giving. “There’s something truly special about the process of giving gifts,” she said. “It’s not just about the presents themselves, but the thought and love that goes into choosing them. Vanessa’s heartfelt words reminded Cameron of the very first gift he ever bought with his own money. “I remember the first present I bought my dad using my own cash—it was the KISS Destroyer 8-track tape,” Cameron shared with a chuckle. “I was so proud, thinking, ‘Now Dad can play this awesome tape whenever I’m in his car!’ Looking back, I realize I had a lot to learn about thoughtful gift-giving, but hey, we all start somewhere, right?”

A Dream Trip to Southeast Asia

This year, the Mathisons are shaking things up with a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Vanessa has always dreamed of exploring Southeast Asia, and Cameron surprised her with an unforgettable trip to Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos. “It’s been my lifelong dream to visit this part of the world, and Cameron made it happen,” Vanessa gushed. “He planned the whole thing as a birthday surprise, and I couldn’t be more thrilled.”

With this exciting trip on the horizon, the Mathison family’s Christmas celebrations will look a little different this year. “Instead of the usual traditions, we’ll be kicking off our holiday in Myanmar,” Vanessa explained. “Cameron and the kids are joining me there, and then we’ll head to Thailand. It’s going to be an incredible way to celebrate the season.”
