Deana Martin, daughter of the iconic Dean Martin, cherishes every memory of her father. Among those cherished moments is the unforgettable 16th birthday she spent with him in 1964. "Dad went with me to get a coat at Wilsons House of Suede in LA," Deana reminisced to Closer Weekly at the recent Friars Club Honors Billy Crystal event in NYC. "He sat there patiently while I went through fabric after fabric, even choosing buttons." She laughed as she added, "He sat there looking at me like, 'Can I go yet?' But he stayed. And he even left his golf game to be with me!"
Dean Martin may have been known for his love of golf, but there was nothing he cherished more than his family. For Deana, now 70, growing up in the Martin household was nothing short of magical. "You had to be a little bit louder or funnier than your brothers and sisters," she recalled. "The house was filled with laughter, and he loved being at home. We were his everything." Living with such a legendary figure wasn’t just about fame—it was about the warmth and love he brought into their lives every single day.
When Dean Martin came home, his kids knew they were in for a treat. "He would get a piece of Wonder Bread and put butter on it," Deana fondly recalled. "We couldn’t wait for him to get home. He was just so warm, sweet, funny, and cool." It wasn’t about the luxurious lifestyle or the glitz of Hollywood—it was about the simple joys of family life. For Deana, her father was more than a star; he was a dad who made every moment count.

Dean Martin’s charm wasn’t lost on one of his biggest fans: Elvis Presley. "Elvis once leaned down and took my little hand and said, 'Deana, I love your father—they call me the King of Rock 'n' Roll, but he’s the King of Cool,'" Deana marveled. "I wanted to faint!" It wasn’t surprising that Elvis admired Dean, considering Deana’s description of her father: "Dad made everybody feel comfortable." Whether it was his charisma or his genuine kindness, Dean Martin left an indelible mark on everyone he met.
Even though Dean Martin passed away from lung cancer at the age of 78 on Christmas Day in 1995, his legacy continues to shine brightly. "Every show I do, people come up and say, 'I’m your dad’s biggest fan,'" said Deana, who has followed in her father’s footsteps by becoming a singer. "I’ve never heard a negative thing about my dad, and I meet hundreds of people. Everybody wanted to be with him." For Deana, her father’s memory is alive
