Jada Pinkett Smith Opens Up About Struggles With Fame And Mental Health

Hey there, let’s talk about something real for a moment. Fame, fortune, and all the glitz—it’s not always as glamorous as it seems, right? We’ve seen it time and time again with so many celebrities who’ve shared their struggles. Recently, Jada Pinkett Smith, one of Hollywood’s brightest stars, opened up about the tough times she faced after achieving success in the entertainment world.

On her popular Facebook Watch series, Red Table Talk, the 47-year-old actress and wife of Will Smith revealed that once she hit the big leagues in Hollywood, things didn’t go as smoothly as she might have imagined. In fact, it was quite the opposite. Jada shared that she experienced a period of severe emotional distress and even had suicidal thoughts when fame first came knocking. “I had an emotional breakdown that definitely, I feel like, affected my mental stability,” Jada said. “I got to L.A., achieved a certain level of success, and realized that it wasn’t the answer I was looking for. It didn’t make everything okay. Actually, it made things worse. I became extremely suicidal and had a complete emotional collapse.”

When Fame Hit, Jada Felt Overwhelmed

Jada explained that this challenging period in her life happened when she was just 20 years old. At that point, she reached out to her mom, Adrienne Banfield-Jones, in a state of panic. She recalled how overwhelming it felt when you lose control over your emotions and thoughts. “It’s like when you just don’t have control over emotions, your thoughts—you feel completely and utterly out of control,” Jada described. And guess what? Jada isn’t the only one in her family who has faced such struggles. Her daughter, 18-year-old Willow Smith, also opened up earlier this year about her own experiences in Hollywood. Willow shared her feelings after the success of “Whip My Hair,” saying, “It was after that whole ‘Whip My Hair’ thing and I had just stopped doing singing lessons and I kind of was in this gray area of: ‘Who am I? Do I have a purpose? Is there anything I can do besides this?’ I was cutting myself and doing crazy things.”

    Facing Hair Loss with Courage

Jada has always been open about her personal life, and earlier this year, she also spoke about her experience with hair loss. “Let me tell you, it was terrifying when it started,” Jada revealed. “I was in the shower one day, and then I had just handfuls of hair in my hands. I was just like, ‘Oh my God, am I going bald?’ It was one of those times in my life where I was literally shaking in fear.” Jada added, “And my hair has been a big part of me. Taking care of my hair has been a beautiful ritual, and having the choice to have hair or not. And then, one day, to be like, ‘Oh my God, I
