Believe it or not, Sarah Jessica Parker, the iconic actress who stole our hearts in The Family Stone, recently admitted to Vulture that she doesn’t know the film as well as her fans do. In an unexpected twist, the star of Sex and the City revealed, “You probably know the movie better than I do.” She confessed, “I’ve only seen it once.” Say what?!
But don’t worry—Sarah isn’t totally opposed to revisiting the film. In fact, she might just give it another shot. “Maybe I should watch it again,” the 53-year-old said thoughtfully. She even hinted that her nine-year-old twin daughters, Marion and Tabitha, might enjoy it. “Maybe my daughters would love it,” she added, hinting at a potential family movie night in the works.
Now might be the perfect moment for Sarah to cozy up with her daughters, grab some popcorn, and rewatch The Family Stone by the fire. However, here’s a twist: watching Christmas movies isn’t exactly how Sarah gets into the holiday spirit. “We don’t watch a lot of movies at Christmas. It’s very strange. I didn’t grow up watching movies at Christmas,” Sarah explained. Instead of classic holiday films like Home Alone or A Christmas Story, her family had a unique tradition. “At Christmas, we always went to see whatever the big movie was, as a family,” she recalled.

Even though Sarah’s family didn’t indulge in the usual holiday films, they still gathered for some cinematic entertainment. “Actually, I’m remembering this now—when you could start renting movies on your own, we always watched Albert Brooks’s movies at Christmas. Always,” Sarah revealed. She fondly remembered classics like Defending Your Life, Modern Romance, and Real Life. It’s clear that for Sarah, Christmas was all about embracing a different kind of film magic.
While Sarah might not have revisited The Family Stone as much as her fans, she certainly enjoyed making the film. During filming, she shared one of her favorite scenes to shoot, and it might not be the one you’d expect. “I was absolutely completely covered with it. I recall going in for coverage, and having to stay covered in it,” she remembered, laughing about the scene where she had to fall into the breakfast strata egg dish. “Like, I couldn’t clean up. I had to stay because they were going in for tighter shots, and we couldn’t try to re-create how it had spilled on me. I spent many, many hours staying in that outfit.”
So, what made this scene so special for Sarah? Well, it’s simple: she loves the physicality of acting. “I love that stuff. I love falling. I love all the physical stuff. I love props. For me, the more real all that can be, the better the work is, the better I feel like I’m actually having the experience, so I don’t want anyone else to do it for me. I don’t care if I’m covered in some Swedish egg casserole or whatever that was,” she said, proving that she’s just as much a trooper as she is a star.
