Amy Robach Opens Up About Her Marriage To Andrew Shue: The Hard Work, Romance, And Family Adventures

Maintaining a successful marriage isn’t a walk in the park, especially when you’re juggling demanding careers, five kids, and past relationships. But according to 20/20 coanchor Amy Robach, it’s all about putting in the effort—and maybe a little help along the way. Speaking exclusively to Closer Weekly at the WebMD Health Hero Awards in New York on January 15, Amy spilled the tea on how she and her husband, Andrew Shue, have managed to stay strong through the ups and downs of life.

10 Years of Hard Work and Passion

Amy, 45, and Andrew, 51, are celebrating a decade of marriage this April 7. When asked about the secret to their enduring relationship, Amy was quick to credit the foundation of their union: “A lot of hard work,” she said candidly. “We started with extreme passion and respect for each other. But life throws curveballs, right? Five kids, ex-spouses, jobs that pull us in different directions—it’s not easy. Still, we make it work because we’re committed to each other.”

Amy went on to reveal that they’ve sought couples therapy multiple times throughout their marriage. “Oh my gosh, it’s been such a game-changer for us. We’re not afraid to admit when we need help, and therapy has been a huge part of why we’ve been so successful as a couple. We work at it, and we’re not ashamed to get support when we need it,” she explained. It’s refreshing to hear a celebrity couple talk openly about the challenges of marriage and the importance of seeking help when things get tough.

When asked about the most romantic thing Andrew has ever done for her, Amy’s eyes lit up. “Oh my gosh, that’s such a great question,” she said with a laugh. “Okay, so this was incredible. Andrew surprised me with a beautiful tanzanite ring when we summited Mount Kilimanjaro for my five-year cancer anniversary. Tanzanite is a rare mineral that’s only found in the foothills of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, and it’s this stunning blue stone. He even got down on one knee to give it to me! I was blown away.”

Amy admitted that while she’s not always the romantic one, she does her part by keeping the household running smoothly. “You know, I’m the one who cleans the house, does the grocery shopping, and makes sure everything runs like clockwork. Those might not seem romantic, but they’re my way of showing love and support. Andrew’s the romantic one, though—he really knows how to sweep me off my feet!”

A Family Affair: Bringing Everyone Together

But it’s not just about Amy and Andrew’s relationship—it’s also about their blended family of five kids. The couple has two daughters, Ava and Annie, from Amy’s previous marriage to Tim McIntosh, and three sons, Nate, Aidan, and Wyatt, from Andrew’s previous marriage to Jennifer Hageney. Amy shared that they recently took the entire family on a vacation to Turks and Caicos. “It was amazing! We had all five kids, my parents, and even the older kids brought their girlfriends. There were 11 of us in total. It was such a special moment to have everyone together, especially since the boys are in college now. It’s not always easy to coordinate everyone’s schedules, so this trip meant the world to us,” she said.
