When it comes to Hollywood icons, Gwyneth Paltrow is at the top of the list. Known for her stunning looks, incredible talent, and a career that spans decades, she’s one of the most recognizable names in the entertainment industry. But guess what? To her own kids, 14-year-old Apple and 12-year-old Moses, she’s anything but glamorous. In fact, they find her downright mortifying.
During an appearance on The Rachael Ray Show back in January, the 46-year-old actress opened up about how her children really feel about her. "I am absolutely mortifying," she confessed with a laugh. "Like, I am the most embarrassing person on the planet all of a sudden." Gwyneth went on to explain that this phase has been going on for a while now. "It’s been a couple of good years where I’ve been the most embarrassing person in their lives," she joked.

According to Gwyneth, it’s her spontaneous antics in public that really get under Apple’s skin. "If I do anything remotely silly in public, my daughter turns ghost white," she revealed. "Whether it's telling corny jokes or dancing in the middle of a store—God forbid—I can see the panic in her eyes. She’ll yell, ‘Mom!’ and I’ll just say, ‘Alright, sorry, got it.’ It’s hilarious, really." Clearly, Gwyneth takes it all in stride.
Gwyneth also shared a funny story about a shopping trip with Apple during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She recounted how they were out shopping when a great song came on. "Apple looked at me with this serious expression and said, ‘Don’t even think about it.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, come on, Apple!’ She was firm, though—‘Do not, Mom.’" It’s clear that Apple is determined to protect herself from her mom’s over-the-top energy at all costs.
Apple might have had another reason to bury her face in her hands during Gwyneth’s visit to The Tonight Show. Gwyneth and Jimmy Fallon played a hilarious game called "Slay It, Don’t Spray It," where players had to sing the lyrics of popular songs. If they messed up, they got sprayed with water from the microphone. Gwyneth was tasked with singing Ariana Grande’s "No Tears Left to Cry." Unfortunately, she didn’t last long before getting drenched. "Oh my goodness, who’s controlling the water? That was intense!" Jimmy exclaimed, laughing uncontrollably as Gwyneth reacted dramatically to the soaking.
Even though Apple might have been mortified (if she was watching), fans absolutely loved seeing Gwyneth let loose and have fun on the show. After all, part of being a great mom is knowing how to laugh at yourself—even when your kids are rolling their eyes.
