Patricia Arquette is no stranger to accolades, having won an Oscar, but even she admits she's still processing her 2019 Golden Globes nomination. The celebrated actress, who is known for her powerful performances, recently opened up about her feelings regarding this prestigious nod.
At 50 years old, Patricia was candid at the BAFTA tea event on January 5, where she discussed her disbelief about being nominated for her role as Tilly Mitchell in the critically acclaimed Showtime series, Escape at Dannemora. "I've been in denial about all of this until just about an hour ago," she confessed to Us Weekly. Patricia went on to describe the anxiety she felt as the event approached. "I've been trying to keep it together, but I'm actually having a low-grade anxiety attack right now," she admitted with a laugh. "You know, I'm not really the type who loves dressing up—I'm more of an overalls kind of person. So, stepping outside my comfort zone is a challenge, but it's something I'm working on." Patricia's honesty about her personal struggles and her laid-back attitude make her all the more relatable and endearing to fans.
Despite the nerves, Patricia says she's "a bit excited" about the nomination. "It's going to be such a wonderful celebration of the hard work we all put into this show," she said. Patricia, who earned her reputation for fearless performances, revealed in a recent interview with The Telegraph that she doesn't let the pressure to be "likable" affect her. "It's a burden that's often placed on women and actresses more than men," she explained. "There's always this question: 'Is she likable? How can we make her more likable? How do we make people empathize with her?' Honestly, I don't care about that. It's incredibly freeing to not worry about being liked all the time."
