Rosie O'Donnell Embraces Her Role As A New Grandma Amid Family Reconciliation

There’s nothing quite like the joy of becoming a grandparent, and Rosie O'Donnell knows this feeling all too well. Just last month, she welcomed her very first grandchild into the world — a precious baby girl named Skylar Rose. Rosie’s life has been transformed since then, as she happily embraces her new role as “Nana.” But here's the twist: during her appearance on the Today show on January 16, Rosie revealed she narrowly missed her granddaughter’s birth by just an hour! Life can be unpredictable, but as Rosie shared, it was still an incredibly emotional and joyful experience.

“It was really trippy, I have to say,” Rosie, 56, reflected on her daughter Chelsea’s delivery in mid-December. Chelsea, who resides in Wisconsin with her partner Jake, had called her mom in a rush, saying she was in labor. Rosie hopped on the first available flight, but despite her best efforts, she arrived just an hour too late. Still, the joy of meeting her granddaughter for the very first time filled her heart. “But she’s happy,” Rosie added with a smile, capturing the hearts of everyone watching.

Despite the whirlwind of emotions and the tight timeline, Rosie’s journey to the hospital was absolutely worth it. Holding her granddaughter Skylar Rose for the first time was a moment she’ll cherish forever. “First of all, she has a full head of black hair, like a full… you can do styles with her hair, you know?” Rosie gushed, her excitement palpable. It’s clear that Rosie is already smitten with her tiny grandchild.

Rosie is thrilled not only for her granddaughter but also for her daughter Chelsea and Jake. “Just to see my daughter so happy and so, sort of content, and this guy who loves her so much, loving that baby,” Rosie shared, expressing her joy for her family. For adopted children like Chelsea, having their own child can bring a sense of completeness. “Now she feels, I think a lot of adopted kids feel like until they have their own child, they don’t have that unit to look at someone who looks like them to see genetically that they have their own kind of history, so it was really a very beautiful thing,” Rosie explained, highlighting the emotional significance of this family milestone.

Rebuilding Bridges: Rosie and Chelsea’s Journey

Rosie’s excitement about being by Chelsea’s side during this pivotal chapter of her life is undeniable. However, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing for this mother-daughter duo. Rosie and Chelsea have had a complicated relationship in the past, marked by estrangement. But the two have made a conscious effort to reconnect. “We have reconnected,” Rosie told People in June after confirming her daughter’s pregnancy. This reconciliation has paved the way for a stronger bond between them.

Their relationship began to sour when Chelsea ran away from home at the age of 17. She was found safe a week later, but during that time, she claimed she had been kicked out of her mother’s home. Whether or not her allegations were entirely true, the incident left a lasting impact on their relationship, creating a rift that took years to mend.
