Gabrielle Union Talks Back To Mommy Shamers After Sweet Baby Video

It feels like just yesterday that Gabrielle Union announced the arrival of her daughter, Kaavia James, with husband Dwyane Wade. And already, the actress is facing a wave of criticism online. On December 6, Gabrielle shared a heartwarming video on Instagram of herself kissing her newborn on the lips, only to receive some pretty harsh feedback from a few followers.

One commenter chimed in with, “Ahhhh didn’t anyone tell you [that] you shouldn’t kiss a baby [on] the mouth. Even your own. She’s beautiful though.” Another added, “She’s gorgeous, but no kissing babies on the mouth.” Can you imagine? All she was trying to do was show off her adorable little one!

It didn’t stop there. Another concerned follower even went as far as to warn Gabrielle, 46, about her baby’s breathing. “She is breathing very, very hard. The pull is showing. Signs we are taught by [doctors] to look for [in] asthmatic children. Please take a look at this, @gabunion. Adorable, just be safe,” the comment read. Wow, that’s a lot of unsolicited advice for a new mom!

Gabrielle Fires Back at Critics

After seeing all the comments, Gabrielle decided it was time to speak up. She addressed her critics and reassured everyone that both she and Kaavia are doing just fine. “Hey guys, I appreciate all the concern about kisses on the mouth and labored breathing, I am blessed enough to have a nurse here with us while at work,” she said. “Kaav is healthy and I don’t even touch her without washing and sanitizing myself and everything and everyone that comes into contact with her.”

She continued, “If you think I waited this long and went [through] all this to put my baby in harm’s way… you got another thing coming.” Talk about standing your ground! Gabrielle knows exactly what she’s doing as a mom, and she’s not letting anyone else tell her otherwise.
