Back in 1994, something extraordinary happened in a small second-hand dress shop. An unnamed shop assistant stumbled upon a stunning gown, purchased it for $255, and took it home. Now, fast forward 24 years later, and that same dress is set to hit the auction block, where it's anticipated to sell for a staggering $130,000. So, what makes this dress so special? Well, it turns out that this beautiful gown originally belonged to none other than Princess Diana herself.
According to the Daily Mail, this dress, crafted by the talented duo Elizabeth and David Emanuel, had a fascinating journey before it found its way to the second-hand shop. It was originally donated by a housekeeper from a nearby estate in Herefordshire, which was close to Diana’s friend Caroline Twiston-Davies. When the shop assistant first bought the dress, she had grand plans to wear it to a ball. But life had other plans, and the ball never happened. So, the dress stayed tucked away in her closet until one day, while watching a documentary, she made a startling discovery. She realized that the dress she had purchased years ago was the very same one Princess Diana wore during her visit to the Gulf.
"The owner paid £200 ($255) for the dress," auctioneer Kerry Taylor shared. "She knew it belonged to Diana but didn’t fully grasp its significance until years later." Kerry explained that while watching a documentary about Princess Diana, the owner spotted the exact gown sitting in her wardrobe, unworn for all those years. "Although there are millions of Princess Diana fans, only a select few have the means to afford a gown like this," Kerry added. "Nevertheless, this dress is incredibly important, and we expect intense bidding on auction day. It’s in pristine condition and truly a one-of-a-kind piece."
