Listen, folks, here’s a story about Kate Hudson, who just welcomed her third child, but she’s still figuring out how to be the best mom possible. For some women, motherhood comes naturally, but not everyone gets the "mommy gene" right away. Kate, the star of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, admitted in a recent interview that raising kids is pretty much trial and error for most parents.
At 39 years old, Kate appeared on the Today show on Thursday, January 10, talking about her life as a mom of three—her three-month-old baby girl, Rani Rose Fujikawa, her 17-year-old son, Ryder Robinson, and her 7-year-old son, Bingham Bellamy. She shared how her life has changed and how she approaches motherhood now. "My life is completely different today," she said. "I’m doing different things. Honestly, it’s like trial and error. The first kid is kind of the guinea pig. I’m definitely more responsible now. I’m not messing up Rani as much as I messed up Ryder," she joked.
During her interview, Kate also opened up about her plans for more children with her boyfriend, Danny Fujikawa. She mentioned that she’s not done yet, and she’s thinking about expanding their family even more. "I always thought I’d have four to six kids," she shared. "I had this idea when I was a little girl. When you come from a big family, you either don’t want kids or you want a lot of them. So I always thought I’d have more kids," she explained with a smile.

She added with a laugh, "At one point, I thought, 'Maybe I’m done.' But then I met Danny, and I thought, 'Alright, I’ve got to pump out more kids for him.' He needs a boy. He needs his own boy," she said, showing how much she loves her partner and wants to grow their family together.
It’s been heartwarming to see Kate’s sons interact with their baby sister, Rani, on social media. "It’s quite amazing to watch because it’s a completely different generation," she said about her kids. She shared a funny moment when her oldest son, Ryder, looked at her and said, "Mom, when I’m 30, Rani is going to be just turning 16." She laughed, saying, "That’s wild, that I’ll have a 30-year-old kid and a child in high school." It’s clear that Kate cherishes every moment of her kids growing up together.
Kate also mentioned how Rani’s childhood will be much different from her firstborn’s upbringing. She explained that her oldest son lived a "nomadic" lifestyle because she took him everywhere she went. Things changed when Bingham came along, and now she’s creating a more stable environment for her kids.

Even though Kate is already thinking about having more kids, she revealed in late November that she’s still adjusting to the day-to-day aspects of having a new baby since Rani’s arrival. "The routine with our baby is getting more familiar, and I’m ready to start taking a little time in the day focusing on myself," she said. "For me, that means my health. Because I want to be around a long time for these three kiddos of mine," she shared on Instagram.
"I know that some are curious about what that means, and for all you moms—whether working or not working moms—it is the most challenging thing in the world to balance kids and personal time," she wrote. "Let’s be honest, kids take the number one position, and it’s hard to make the time for yourself," she admitted, showing her understanding of the struggles that all moms face.
