Here's the scoop: In this new adventure, Harley has officially left her toxic relationship with the Joker, played by Jared Leto in the original Suicide Squad. This time around, Harley finds herself entangled with a young girl named Cassandra Cain, played by Ella Jay Basco. Cassandra stumbles upon a special diamond that was stolen from Gotham City's notorious crime lord, Black Mask, portrayed by the always captivating Ewan McGregor. Now, Harley, who isn't exactly known for her noble deeds, teams up with a group of badass women to protect Cassandra. This dream team includes Black Canary, played by Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Huntress, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Gotham police detective Renee Montoya, played by Rosie Perez. Interestingly, Jared Leto will make a small appearance, reprising his role as the Joker. The film is directed by Cathy Yan, known for her work on 2018's Dead Pigs, with a script by Christina Hodson, the mastermind behind 2018's Bumblebee.

Christina Hodson's Take on Harley Quinn

Christina Hodson, the screenwriter behind Birds of Prey, has nothing but love for Harley Quinn. In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, she shared her admiration for the character. "I love Harley Quinn. I’ve always loved Harley. She’s incredibly intelligent; she’s a psychiatrist, but she’s also incredibly silly and immature. That balance between sanity and madness, fun and frivolity, and real intelligence and heart is such a fun thing to play with. Harley takes that to the next level: she’s a little bit of everything, and to be able to write a character like that is amazing. It’s such a fun set of crayons to be coloring with," she said. Christina also mentioned that collaborating with Margot on the character and the story over the last three years has been a dream come true.

Margot Robbie's Perspective on Harley Quinn

When Suicide Squad was first released, Margot Robbie spoke to the LA Times about her take on Harley Quinn. She described Harley as one of the more unpredictable members of the squad. Margot explained, "She also used to be a psychiatrist, so she has an extensive knowledge of mental illnesses and how to profile people, pick their triggers, and as Harley Quinn, she kind of utilizes that to just manipulate people and mess with them. She definitely does that with the squad. She’s always picking someone to be dissecting and playing off and messing with." Margot's portrayal of Harley Quinn was nothing short of mesmerizing, and fans are eagerly awaiting her return in Birds of Prey.

Birds of Prey is set to hit theaters on February 7, 2020. Mark your calendars, folks, because this one is going to be a wild ride.
