Cyndi Lauper Reflects On Love, Marriage, And Motherhood

There’s no one who understands the joy of life quite like Cyndi Lauper. You might know her as the legendary singer behind hits like "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," but she’s also a devoted wife and mother. And let me tell you, her story of love and family is nothing short of inspiring. Cyndi tied the knot with her husband, actor David Thornton, back in 1991, and they’ve been riding that wave of happiness ever since.

Cyndi Lauper’s Love Story: A Match Made in Music and Laughter

Back on November 24, 1991, Cyndi Lauper walked down the aisle to marry David Thornton, and it wasn’t just any ordinary wedding—it was a celebration of two souls coming together. “David is more than my husband; he’s my best friend,” Cyndi, now 65, revealed exclusively to Closer Weekly. “He’s wildly creative, and I knew from the start that I wanted to share my whole life with him.”

And guess what? That’s exactly what happened. Over the years, their bond has only grown stronger, proving that true love isn’t just about fairy-tale moments but about sticking together through thick and thin.

The Secret to a Happy Marriage? Work It Out

Cyndi and David have built a life together that’s full of love, laughter, and yes, hard work. They welcomed their son, Dex, who recently turned 21, and their family dynamic is as strong as ever. Cyndi credits her marriage’s success to a simple philosophy she learned from another iconic couple: “I once heard George Harrison’s wife say that the secret to a lasting marriage is to stay married and work things out,” Cyndi shared. “And you know what? That philosophy has served us well for 32 amazing years.”

Of course, maintaining a successful marriage isn’t always easy, especially when one partner is a global superstar. But Cyndi and David have always been on the same page. “We’ve had conversations about me possibly slowing down or even retiring from music,” Cyndi admitted in a previous interview with ABC. “We’ve agreed that when it’s time to step back, it’s okay to do so. We’re just a couple trying to raise a kid and stay together.”

Raising a Family While Rocking the Stage

Being a mom is one of Cyndi’s proudest roles, and she’s committed to being the best parent she can be for Dex—even if sometimes it feels like he’s the mature one. She recalled an amusing incident where she slipped up on live TV, and her son wasn’t shy about calling her out. “Dex told me, ‘What Dad always says is, if you don’t curse when it’s not important, you won’t curse when it really matters,’” Cyndi laughed. “And I was like, ‘Yeah, you’re right. It was a long day, kid.’”

At the end of the day, Cyndi wants to be authentic in everything she does, whether it’s raising her son, writing songs, or performing on stage. “I don’t want to be a fake parent, a fake singer, or a fake writer,” she emphasized. “I want to be the real deal in every aspect of my life.”
