Is a Big Family Trip on the Horizon?

These days, Joanna and Chip Gaines, both in their forties, have been enjoying a quieter pace at home. But these passport photos might hint at something exciting on the horizon. Could the Gaines family be planning a big trip? With five kids under their care—Drake, Ella, Duke, Emmie Kay, and now Crew—it’s no surprise they’re keeping their plans close to the chest. However, they’ve been taking full advantage of their downtime since the fifth and final season of their hit show, Fixer Upper, wrapped up in April 2018.

“They’re laying low and staying low-key,” Jimmy Don Holmes, a trusted friend and collaborator from JDH Iron Designs, told Closer Weekly. “I saw them drive by this morning. They tend to stop by the Magnolia Headquarters occasionally, but they focus more on their businesses in Waco, Texas. They don’t visit the headquarters too much because they spend the majority of their time with family and at home.”

What’s Next for the Gaines Family?

While the Gaines family has teased a return to TV with their own cable network in the future, Jimmy Don revealed to Closer that there’s been no sign of camera crews in Waco yet. “As far as I know, there’s no filming going on at the moment. I usually know things, and as of right now, I don’t know when they’re launching their network,” he shared. Clearly, the logistics are still in the planning stages, but one thing is certain—Joanna and Chip are savoring every moment with their growing family.

“They’re amazing as parents—just like his parents and her parents,” Jimmy Don added. “They’re so good with the kids! I feel like a better person because I got to know the Gaines and their parents—they’re all kind people.” It’s clear that the Gaines family continues to inspire and delight everyone who crosses their path. And who wouldn’t want to soak up a little of that warmth and kindness?
