Debra Messing Opens Up About Life As A Single Mom And Her Son's Hollywood Adventures

Debra Messing Shares Her Unique Bond with Son Roman

When you think of Debra Messing, the first thing that comes to mind is her iconic role as Grace Adler in the beloved sitcom Will & Grace. But to her 14-year-old son, Roman, she's simply "Mom." In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Debra revealed just how grounded her relationship with her son remains despite her star-studded career. "It's fascinating," she admitted. "I’ve brought Roman to the set of Will & Grace his entire life. He’s grown up visiting me on set and building close relationships with my co-stars. To him, this is just normal life."

Imagine growing up surrounded by the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. For Roman, it wasn’t about the fame or the flashbulbs—it was simply part of his everyday routine. Debra explained that Roman didn’t fully grasp the magnitude of her career until much later. "When he first became aware, it was actually during The Starter Wife," she recalled. "He saw me on a bus one day and asked, 'Mommy, why are you on a bus?' That’s when I explained that it’s just part of my job." It’s moments like these that show how Debra has managed to keep things real for her son, even in such a surreal world.

Roman's Hollywood Upbringing

Debra isn’t the only one who’s shaped Roman’s understanding of the entertainment industry. His dad, Daniel Zellman, is also a creative force in Hollywood, working as a writer, director, and producer. "Roman grew up around both of us," Debra shared. "He’s been surrounded by creativity his whole life. Honestly, I don’t think he finds me particularly cool. And that’s exactly how I want it to be." It’s clear that Debra values normalcy for her son, even amidst the chaos of fame and fortune.
