Listen, life doesn’t slow down for royalty, even on special occasions. Prince William recently made a trip to London’s Air Ambulance on January 9, just as his wife, Kate Middleton, was celebrating her 37th birthday. While it might seem like a bummer to miss out on your spouse's big day, I'm sure Kate fully supports her husband's important duties. The Duke of Cambridge didn’t let the birthday festivities distract him from his responsibilities. Kensington Palace gave us the inside scoop on this visit, and it came with some exciting news.
Here’s the deal: The Duke of Cambridge has officially become the Patron of London’s Air Ambulance’s #30YearsSavingLives campaign. This initiative is all about shining a light on the incredible work this charity does to deliver life-saving treatment across London. It also aims to rally support for the development of new facilities. Kensington Palace shared this update on Twitter, and we have to say, it’s a pretty big deal for Will. This new role aligns perfectly with his history of supporting emergency services.
London’s Air Ambulance has been a lifeline for the city's 10 million residents for the past three decades. The palace gave us a bit more insight into what this new patronage entails. “London’s Air Ambulance has been providing life-saving treatment to the 10 million people who live and work in London for 30 years. The Duke of Cambridge visited @LDNairamb to learn more about the challenges of working as a first responder in the capital #30YearsSavingLives,” they explained. As the patron of this campaign, Prince William will advocate for those on the front lines and emphasize the importance of the rapid response and cutting-edge medical care provided by London’s Air Ambulance.

Another tweet highlighted William’s personal connection to this cause: “Through his work as an air ambulance pilot for the @EastAngliAirAmb, The Duke has seen firsthand the impact @LDNairamb first responders have on the lives of patients with critical injuries.”
Now, let’s not forget that it was Kate’s birthday! Even though William was out supporting a worthy cause, Kate didn’t miss out on a special celebration. Her two older children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, made sure to add a personal touch to her day. Along with her mom, Carole Middleton, Kate enjoyed a delightful lunch with champagne to mark the occasion. A source exclusively told Closer Weekly, “George and Charlotte have already made their mom birthday cards in their arts and craft class. Whilst they’re at school during the day, Carole will celebrate with Kate by popping open a bottle of champagne and enjoying a nice lunch!”
